Vintage Folding Papercord Ottoman

A vintage folding ottoman with woven papercord in the style of Hans Wegner, made in Yugoslavia, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.

This vintage ottoman is marked “MADE IN YUGOSLAVIA”. It was probably made in the 1960s. It is wrapped with papercord in a beautiful pattern. It is made of walnut and stained in a dark color. It has hardware that allows it to be folded for storage or transport.

This ottoman is styled practically identical the one designed in 1949 by iconic Danish designer and architect Hans Wegner. Many companies “borrowed” that design or very similar designs, along with those of many of his other pieces. Without a “Hans Wegner” sticker or mark, it can only honestly be called “in the style of Hans Wegner”.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition. There are some minor nicks and wear to the wood stain that let you know it is vintage. The papercord is tight and in excellent condition and only very minor wear. Underneath, one bolt and nut had been replaced by a set that was too shiny. I have replaced it with a more appropriate set. The replacement is on the right. See image 7.

This piece measures 20 ¼ inches wide by 15 deep by 15 high.
