Pair of Chrome Tubular Steel by Royal
A pair of tubular chrome steel chairs with Bakelite armrests by Royal Metal Manufacturing Company offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
The Royal Metal Manufacturing Company was formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1888. They were known for creating the concept of chromed, tubular steel for household furniture. Their furniture was built to last and to stand up to almost anything a household could do to it. Pick up one of these chairs and the weight tells you all you need to know.
These chairs were most likely made in the late 1940s to possibly the early 1950s. They have their Royal sticker underneath. They are made with classic Royal chrome, tubular steel frames and a very comfortable seat and back covered in a caramel colored vinyl. The feet have black caps on them. Their black Bakelite armrests are the perfect accent.
A chair measures 21” wide by 20 deep and a back height of 32. The seat height is 17 ½ inches.
This pair is in excellent vintage condition. They are in remarkable condition for any age, particularly at 80+ years old. The original vinyl has no cuts. The vinyl has been cleaned. It is completely intact. There is one small dark spot on one of the seats; see image 6. The chrome is in beautiful with no pitting or tarnish. They have been polished.
This is a beautiful set of Royal chairs in amazing condition.
