Mid-century Danish Teak Sideboard by Lovig

Mid-century Danish Teak Sideboard by Lovig

$0.00Price

A mid-century teak sideboard with tambour doors by Løvig of Denmark, offered by Snowdrift Antiques.

Peter Løvig Nielsen (1929-2007) was a Danish furniture designer known for his elegant and functional designs. He was born in Denmark and trained as a cabinetmaker before studying furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.

Nielsen began his career as a furniture designer in the 1950s, and quickly gained recognition for his innovative designs. His furniture was characterized by its clean lines, simplicity, and functionality, and he often used natural materials such as wood and leather. This piece was produced by Løvig in Hedensted, Denmark in 1969 as shown by the mark underneath. It also has its Løvig sticker on the back.

This sideboard and similar ones are often mis-attributed to the Danish designer Jens Quistgaard.

This is a beautifully done sideboard that would be perfect as an entertainment stand or dining room sideboard. It has two tambour doors that slide around to the back and opens the front. The doors have very stylish handles consisting of a metal insert between wood.

There are storage areas with shelves on either side. In the center are four drawers, two of them with felt for silverware which could be removed if desired. Research has shown that these sideboards always came with four drawers with six slots to put them in. The legs are slightly tapered. This feature differentiates the 1960s Løvig sideboards from the 1970s versions, when the legs became straight and cylindrical. It is beautifully finished on the back allowing it to sit anywhere in a room.

This piece measures 78 ¾ inches long by 19 ¾ deep by 31 ¾ high.

It is in excellent vintage condition. It has been oiled lightly to relieve it from the Colorado dryness.  The teak veneer has excellent grain and color.  The back left interior wood panel was removed at some point. See image 15.

This is a classic piece with clean lines and Danish mid-century style.
