Large Mid-Century Couch by Flexsteel

A mid-century couch in teal by Flexsteel offered by Snowdrift Antiques.
 
Several craftsmen and company names preceded the 1934 formation of the Flexsteel Spring Corporation. They moved to Dubuque, Iowa in 1936 and established themselves as a premiere manufacturer of couches, recliners and lounge chairs. Their claim to fame, was and still is, their patented frames built with integrated steel ribbons that provided sturdiness combined with just the right amount of flex for comfort. They are still in business today carrying on their name as a maker of quality, comfortable , eye-catching furniture.

This mid-century beauty is from the 1960s. It is in a wool or wool blend boucle’ weave of green and blue fibers that produce an overall color that is just slightly greener than what I would call teal. Of course it features the patented Flexsteel ribbons underneath. It has tapered wooden legs on each corner with a fifth leg underneath the center for added support. The arms have attached fabric slips over them for keeping the actual arms free of wear and dirt. You can remove them if you prefer. It has its Flexsteel label underneath the center cushion.

This couch is in excellent vintage condition. It is actually in excellent condition for ANY age. The fabric is in beautiful condition with no stains, wear or fraying. It has bright, vibrant color. The upholstery has been thoroughly cleaned to remove some minor dust. All of the buttons are present on the back cushions. The seat cushion foam has been replaced with new 3 inch high density foam. With all of that and the Flexsteel support underneath, it sits like a dream and smells great.

The wooden frame underneath on the right (when sitting) end had a crack in it. It has been glued together and reinforced with metal brackets. See image 8. It is sturdy and stable.

This beauty measures 87 inches long by 32 deep by 29 back height.

This is an awesome mid-century couch in amazing condition. It will be a focal point for a mid-century living space.
